For many couples, there’s nothing better than spending time at sea and then exploring ports of call. Most major lines offer vow renewal packages priced from free to upwards of $1,000 that include an officiant (often the captain), flowers, keepsake certificate, and other extras.
Some lines, such as Princess Cruises, perform group vow renewals; most offer venue options on and off the ship, including private islands. Ceremonies also can be held in a home port where guests board for a pre-sailing event before wishing the couple bon voyage.
Ships differ greatly in style, size, and price. Viking Cruises welcomes guests over 18. For groups with diverse ages and interests, a megaship with kids programs and wide entertainment and dining options may appeal. Smaller ships offer a more intimate experience. A travel agent can be helpful in selecting the right ship for your needs.
Windstar Cruises: Ceremonies can be performed by the captain on Windstar’s yacht-style cruises. Its sailing and motor yacht ships carry 148 to 310 passengers.
AmaWaterways: The line’s newest, most luxurious ship, AmaMagna, offers free vow renewals with champagne and dessert if you sail with at least ten guests. Other extras include massages for both of you.
Royal Caribbean: Customized vow renewals can be orchestrated on the beach, at the line's private island, in port, or onboard one of the megaships.
Celebrity Cruises: Aisle to Isle packages offer on-board vow renewals on a line known for its sophisticated ambience, spas, and swimming pools.
Holland America: Vow renewals are held at sea, in port, or on the line’s private Caribbean island in a chapel overlooking the sea. Live music, officiant, drinks, and hors d'oeuvres are on tap. Pricing varies by venue and guest count.
